KCK: Call for comprehensive resistance against attacks on Rojava 

The Co-Chairs of the Executive Council of the Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) issued a public statement condemning the attacks by the Turkish occupying army. The statement read as follows:

"December has been marked in history as the month that witnessed numerous massacres committed by the oppressive and colonial Turkish state, including the Maraş Massacre in 1978, attacks on political prisoners in 2000, the Roboski Massacre in 2011, and the Second Paris Massacre in 2022. We once again condemn all these massacres carried out by the Turkish state, and we honor all martyrs of democracy and revolution with respect and gratitude, particularly journalists Cîhan Bîlgîn and Nazim Dashtan from the free press who were recently assassinated. We renew our pledge to the martyrs.

The Maraş Massacre

The Maraş Massacre was part of a genocide plan aimed at the Kurds to depopulate the western Euphrates of Kurds. The oppressive and colonial Turkish state has strategically focused on the western Euphrates to carry out Kurdish genocide, as this area represents the border between Kurdistan and Turkey. Therefore, the Turkish state aimed to initiate Kurdish extermination from this region and expand it across Kurdistan. Consequently, the Kurdish Alevi people living in this area have faced countless massacres and endured great suffering. As seen in the Maraş Massacre of 1978, our Kurdish Alevi people living there were forced to migrate after the massacre, altering the demographic structure of the region. Today, the ruling AKP-MHP government continues this genocide policy, seeking to expand it across all of Kurdistan. The occupation in Rojava and new occupation plans highlight the deepening and continuation of this policy and mentality.

The Roboski Massacre

The brutal massacre of the residents of Roboski village, bombed by warplanes, is another event that exposes the reality of the massacres committed by the Turkish state. Most of those killed were children. Despite 13 years having passed since the Roboski Massacre, those responsible have not been held accountable. In fact, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who ordered the massacre and is primarily responsible, openly defended it to the extent that he congratulated the pilots and military officials who carried out the bombing. As with all other massacres, the Roboski Massacre demonstrated once again that killing Kurds is not considered a crime and that this is a state policy.

The Second Paris Massacre

On December 23, 2022, the oppressive and colonial Turkish state assassinated KCK Executive Council member Evîn Goyî, artist Mîr Perwer, and Kurdish patriot Abdulrahman Kizil in Paris. This massacre has been recorded in history as the Second Paris Massacre. It is evident that the Second Paris Massacre, like the first Paris Massacre, was carried out with the support of European states and their intelligence agencies. Without European state support, Turkey would not have been able to carry out these massacres. The cover-up of both massacres reveals this truth. In the Paris massacres, the French state bears the greatest responsibility. However, to this day, the French state has taken no steps to shed light on these massacres. This gradually increases our people’s suspicions towards the French state. The French state must undoubtedly shed light on these massacres to clear itself of this accusation, which is what the Kurdish people hope for and expect.

On the anniversary of these massacres, our call to our people, friends, revolutionary, and democratic forces is: The only way to hold those responsible for these massacres accountable is by escalating the struggle. On this basis, accountability can be achieved by thwarting the plans of the murderous enemy. Therefore, we must escalate our struggle and strengthen our resistance against occupation and genocide attacks, foiling the enemy’s plans. Accordingly, we call on everyone to resist attacks against Rojava everywhere."
