According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, Katz said in a classified discussion with the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Israel is not on the right track toward peace with Syria, attributing this to the presence of forces within its borders contemplating a ground attack on civilian areas in the Golan Heights.

Katz also affirmed that Israel protects the Druze in Syria, noting that the Israeli army has a prepared plan in case airstrikes on Jabal al-Druze are repeated, including the closure of the border.

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the buffer zone inside Syrian territory, accompanied by Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, the Chief of Staff, and the head of Shin Bet.

Israeli incursions continue intensively and daily in various areas of southern Syria.
