K. Star Coordination: Parliament members selection doesn't represent women or people

Reactions rejecting the process of appointing members of parliament—referred to as the People’s Council—which took place in Hasakah Governorate on May 24, are escalating.

In this context, Gulistan Gulo, a member of the K. Star Coordination, noted that the appointment process was conducted in a centralized manner. She added: “Unfortunately, a one-sided mentality is being relied upon once again. The majority of the components and peoples of the region do not find themselves represented in these parliamentary appointments carried out by the interim government.”

Gulo also highlighted women’s struggle in Rojava, saying: “Today, women’s institutions and organizations are also being ignored, and the women’s quota is not taken into account. Moreover, the space allocated for representing the people of the region is very limited and does not reflect them.”

She concluded her remarks by criticizing some Kurdish parties—in reference to parties of the Kurdish National Council—who agreed with the interim government and participated in the process of appointing members, saying: “Those parties represent only themselves and do not represent the broader Kurdish people.”
