K. Star commemorates mother Awesh, Leader Ocalan’s mother

Kongra Star issued a statement to the public today on the anniversary of the passing of Mother Awesh Ocalan, the mother of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. The statement read:

"On the anniversary of the passing of Mrs. Awesh Ocalan, the mother of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, we stand today in respect and appreciation for the life of a woman who represented a symbol of steadfastness and embodied the patience of Kurdish mothers who gave everything for the just cause of their people.

Mother Awesh embodied the patience of Kurdish women in the face of displacement, repression, and deprivation. She was a living witness to the suffering of her people on one hand, and a figure of unwavering resolve amid difficult political and social circumstances on the other.

From her home, she gave rise to a leader who inspired millions in their struggle for freedom and democracy, supporting his resistance and his liberation project with the faith of a mother who believed in the justice of her son's path.

Despite the harassment she endured, the denial of her rights, and the long years she was prevented from seeing her son, Mother Awesh never wavered in her stance or lost faith in the right of peoples to self-determination. She held a deeply respected place in the hearts of the Kurdish people and democratic movements around the world.

On this occasion, we remember not only a mother who gave birth to a leader, but a woman who carried within her the symbolism of an entire people, a people who believe that the path to dignity begins at home, with the mother, and with the woman who instills awareness and raises the free.

Today, we salute all Kurdish mothers and every mother who stands against injustice and struggles for a free future for her children. We reaffirm our commitment to the values of freedom, justice, and peace, and to our continued support for the struggle of oppressed peoples until their legitimate demands are fulfilled.

Glory and eternity to the soul of Mother Awesh.
