Jordanian air strikes south of Suwayda

Yesterday evening, explosions rocked south of Suwayda, near the Syrian-Jordanian border, following air strikes carried out by warplanes believed to belong to the Jordanian Armed Forces.

The "Suwayda 24" network reported that one of the raids targeted a house and led to severe material damage.

There were reports that a farm was targeted near Al-Ghariya and Umm Al-Rumman, south of Suwayda, where some residents saw plumes of smoke rising from the area.

For its part, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the raids largely destroyed the house of a drug dealer in the town of Al-Shaab in the Suwayda countryside on the border with Jordan, amid information that at least one person was killed.

On December 18, Jordanian warplanes launched air strikes targeting a farm in the town of Dhibin in the southern countryside of Suwayda, which led to the complete destruction of the farm and the killing of 4 people.

Yesterday evening, the Jordanian army announced plans to build an electronic fence to prevent all forms of infiltration and smuggling on the Syrian border, following confrontations between the Jordanian armed forces and smugglers in southern Syria in recent days.

Last Monday, the Jordanian army announced the arrest of 9 smugglers in possession of drugs and various weapons after clashes on the border with Syria, which resulted in injuries among the Jordanian border guards.

It was also announced that 4 rocket launchers, 4 RPG missiles, 10 anti-personnel mines, 3 G3 sniper rifles, and an M16 rifle equipped with a sniper scope were seized, in addition to the destruction of a car loaded with explosive materials during Clashes.

In recent years, Syria has turned into a source of drug manufacturing and a corridor for drug smuggling, especially Damascus-held areas.
