Israeli army strikes Houthi targets in Yemen

The Israeli Defense Minister, Israel Katz, announced today that the military carried out airstrikes against the Houthis at the port of Hodeidah in Yemen.

In a statement released by his office today, Katz said: “The Israel Defense Forces have just struck terrorist targets belonging to the terrorist Houthi regime in the port of Hodeidah, forcefully preventing any attempt to rehabilitate the terrorist infrastructure that was previously targeted,” according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).

He concluded: “As I’ve stated clearly before, Yemen is no different from Tehran. The Houthis will pay a heavy price for launching missiles at the State of Israel.”

Meanwhile, Israel’s Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported on its website Ynet on Monday that an Israeli army spokesperson said the strike hit engineering equipment involved in repairing port infrastructure, as well as fuel tanks and ships used for military activities against Israel and maritime navigation near the port.

The spokesperson added that “other terrorist infrastructure linked to the Houthis” was also targeted. He stated that “ongoing activity and attempts to restore the terrorist infrastructure at the port of Hodeidah were detected,” adding, “therefore, components facilitating these attempts were attacked.”

Additionally, a Houthi security official in Yemen confirmed that Israel struck the port of Hodeidah today, destroying a pier that had been rebuilt after being damaged in a previous attack.

The official, speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, said, “The strike destroyed the port’s pier, which had been rebuilt after it was damaged by previous bombing.”

Last Friday, the Israeli army announced that it had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen toward Israel, after air raid sirens sounded in several areas across the country following the launch.
