Internal Forces in Rojava to retain current status after integration with Ministry of Interior

Under the agreement, the Internal Security Forces in Rojava will remain in their current capacity as a security institution responsible for protecting their areas, while continuing to manage their affairs and carry out their duties through local personnel. At the same time, an integration process will take place with the Syrian Ministry of Interior, whereby specific units will enter the cities of Hasakah and Qamishlo on Monday (2 February) to carry out a temporary mission.

An agreement was announced yesterday between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Interim Government, stipulating the commencement of military and security arrangements aimed at enforcing a ceasefire and opening a path for the gradual integration of the Autonomous Administration’s institutions with those of the Syrian state.

The agreement provides for the withdrawal of military forces from contact lines, followed by the entry of security units affiliated with the Ministry of Interior of the government into the centers of the cities of Hasakah and Qamishlo as an initial step in implementing the provisions of security integration in the region, under temporary arrangements and within a limited geographical scope.

According to the terms of the agreement, the security operation will begin within an agreed-upon timeframe, in parallel with efforts to activate civilian institutions, through joint coordination between the Internal Security Forces of the Autonomous Administration and the state’s security forces, with the aim of ensuring security stability and laying the groundwork for the integration process.

Political sources indicated that this step comes within the context of activating political understandings between the Autonomous Administration and the Interim Government, as part of a broader process aimed at advancing a comprehensive political solution in Syria, rebuilding state institutions, and strengthening national partnership among the various components.

The implementation phase related to the entry of security forces affiliated with the Interim Government is scheduled to begin on Monday (2 February), through a coordinated deployment to pre-designated locations agreed upon by both parties, according to officials involved in the agreement.
