Intellectuals: Meeting with Leader Abdullah Ocalan is necessity for peace

Calls are intensifying in North and East Syria to lift the isolation imposed on Leader Abdullah Ocalan, amid intellectuals’ insistence that meeting him is a strategic necessity that could open new horizons for political solutions and stability throughout the Middle East. They announced their strong desire to meet with him.

Ruqayya Al-Ali, an intellectual from al-Tabqa canton, expressed this sentiment: “In times when challenges are escalating, we are in dire need of a leader who goes beyond slogans, who lives the pain of the people and shares their sufferings; a leader present in their collective consciousness, who does not put on a facade but speaks to them with honesty, instilling confidence that change is possible and that the times still hold something worth fighting for. This is exactly what we find in Leader Abdullah Ocalan.”

She added: “The desire to meet the leader is not a fleeting emotion but rooted in deep faith that he has never betrayed his people nor compromised their causes. He is a symbol of steadfastness in a time of upheaval, a spiritual and intellectual refuge that gives us hope and strengthens our humanity. For us, meeting him is a renewal of our pledge, through which we say: We still see you within us, through us, and for us.”

Meanwhile, Rana al-Sayyid, co-chair of the Union of Intellectuals in al-Tabqa, stressed that Leader Abdullah Ocalan “is not merely a political figure but an intellectual and humanitarian project that has transcended partisan frameworks to become the voice of the voiceless and a mirror reflecting the aspirations of peoples, especially the marginalized.”

She continued: “The leader’s thought brought a qualitative leap in our consciousness and understanding of concepts such as freedom, justice, and the role of women in building societies. The desire to meet him is not only born out of intellectual admiration but from a deep commitment to a liberatory project that places humanity at its core a project that cultivates awareness. We believe freedom begins with awareness, and this is what the leader has planted within us.”

For his part, intellectual Mustafa Kamal from Raqqa stated: “I call for the release of all political prisoners. They are not criminals, but people with opinions and convictions whose rightful place is among their peoples, not behind bars.”

He added: “I emphasize the importance of meeting with Leader Abdullah Ocalan, who possesses a strategic vision and profound knowledge of the region’s realities and complexities. He has a long history of struggle for the rights of peoples and peace. He is the figure who can guide us to the right path. Continuing his isolation practically means the absence of any real prospects for peace.”
