Intellectuals, Activists: Netanyahu is not drop in ocean of Erdogan's crimes

Posts circulating on social media have sparked widespread controversy after a number of intellectuals and activists accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of committing "crimes far greater than those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu," asserting that "Netanyahu is not a drop in the ocean of Erdogan's crimes," as they put it.

These posts came as part of a growing wave of criticism of Ankara's policies at home and abroad, with Erdoğan accused of "suppressing the opposition, restricting freedoms, and launching military campaigns against the peoples of the region, particularly the Kurds, in addition to his support for radical Islamist groups in conflict zones."

Activists stated that "the religious rhetoric cloaked by the Turkish regime cannot conceal the nature of its authoritarian behavior," noting that "the world turns a blind eye to Erdoğan's violations, while the media and political spotlight is focused on other leaders, for reasons they describe as opportunism or moral selectivity."

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "long ago surpassed Hitler," referring to Israeli attacks on Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and even Iran.
