In vigil, Derik residents demand prisoners' release

The residents of Derik city and villages held a protest demanding the release of all prisoners held by the interim government, emphasizing that they will continue to escalate their struggle until their sons are released.

Dozens of residents of Derik city in Jazira region gathered at al-Hurriyya (The Freedom) Square to participate in a protest demanding the release of prisoners, during which they held banners with, "Return our prisoners," "Prisoners are a red line," "Their steadfastness is our hope," and "Their absence is our pain" written on.

After holding a minute of silence, Hussein Ramadan; the member of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) office in Derik, delivered a speech in which he confirmed that "all our prisoners who struggled to defend the dignity and will of the Syrian people must be released."

He continued, "We condemn the international agreements that targeted our people in Rojava, which led to the capture of a number of our fighters by the Interim Government. Their release is a humanitarian obligation, and the release process must be expedited."

Hussein Ramadan noted that they would escalate their struggle until all their sons held captive by the Syrian Interim Government are freed.

The protest concluded with chants of "We want our prisoners back."
