Importance of the Social Contract Protection Court

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria ratified a new social contract on December 12, which included 134 articles, including an article stipulating the formation of a court for the protection of the social contract.

The co-chair of the Democratic Peoples' Council in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, Farid Atti, explained that: "The Court for the Protection of the Social Contract is an independent institution whose mission is to protect the social contract."

Farid Atti explained: "This court will be formed by the Social Justice in North and East Syria region, and the People's Democratic Council, and each council will propose half of the members of this court."

Atti stated: “The court will include experts in the field of law, including judges and jurists,” and added: “After proposals are submitted by the two councils, the members of the court will be approved by the Peoples’ Democratic Assembly, since this court’s mission is to protect the social contract.”

Regarding the tasks of the Social Contract Court, Farid Atti said: “The mission of the court is to protect the social contract, and this court looks into several cases, the most important of which is following up on the decisions issued by the Executive Council or the Peoples’ Democratic Council. If these decisions are in violation of the social contract, the court can object to the decision and cancel it.”

Farid Atti pointed out: “Persons, associations, or institutions have the right to object to any decision, and the court examining the case has the right to refer the objection to the Social Contract Court, and the Contract Court will look into the case and the court will decide on the decision whether it is approving or rejecting.”

Atti stressed: “If differences in views and opinions arise between the Peoples’ Democratic Council and the Executive Council, or the Justice Council, then the Social Contract Court has the right to intervene and look into the authority of each council or the tasks of each council and decide on the dispute.”

Farid Atti stressed that: “The Court for the Protection of the Social Contract exists all over the world, and we, in turn, issued this decision to form a court in order to monitor the principles, rights, societal system, institutions of AANES, and all laws and decisions issued by AANES to be in accordance with the social contract.”
