IDPs demand implementation of return deals for displaced people to their homes

Internally displaced people in the Girê Spî camp are undergoing hard living and economic situations after being internally displaced from their houses by Turkey and its mercenaries. They continue living under unsuitable conditions in tents that are a bad shelter from the summer heat and the cold of winter for the sixth consecutive year. Their situation is forgotten despite the March 10 signed accord, which vows, in one of its clauses, the safe return of all displaced people to their homes.

The internally displaced persons of the Girê Spî camp are optimistic about the speedy execution of the decision to ensure that they return home safely. "We were compelled to leave following the occupation of our towns and villages, and we never lost hope of returning to the localities from which we were displaced," expressed Aziza al-Mar'i, an internally displaced person from the occupied town of Suluk.

Aziza further said that they saw in the ceasefire agreement between the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces and Damascus authorities a glimmer of hope for their return to their homes safely, as part of its terms was the displaced persons' return to their respective neighborhoods. But until now, they haven't seen any action towards the enforcement of this resolution.

Concluding her statement, she called for urgent enforcement of the ruling to clear the way for their safe return home once the occupiers leave.

Simultaneously, displaced Ismail Al-Yassin, from the occupied town of al-Ali Bajliyeh, said, "The holidays always arrive and we are within the camps, open to the entire world, and nobody does anything to free us from the camp life, us and our children, suffering like us from tough living and economic conditions after leaving behind our source of income."

He also added, "I am surprised that our position is not changing, as all the displaced have been able to return to their homes, in Aleppo, Homs, Damascus, and other Syrian governorates from which they were displaced."

He also demanded implementation of the decision on March 10 at a faster pace so that they can go back to their homes.

The Turkish occupation of the Tal Abyad/ Girê Spî  city, following an aggression they had launched against north and east regions of Syria on 9 October 2019, has resulted in the displacement of more than 100,000 of its people, 7,000 of whom are located in the Girê Spî camp (near the town of Tal al-Saman in north Raqqa countryside), while the rest are dispersed in the cities of Raqqa and Tabqa and their rural areas, with harsh living conditions after they were displaced from their homes and left their means of living.
