HASAKAH

Hundreds of families from Serekaniye currently staying in Hassakeh are preparing to head to their city as part of the first group of returnees, in a move expected to pave the way for more displaced people to return to their homes and villages.

Since Sunday, Serekaniye's displaced residents have been making their final preparations for the return, including dismantling their tents and preparing their belongings, furniture and other necessities ahead of leaving the camps and heading back to their areas.

Residents of Serekaniye were displaced from their city following an offensive launched by the Turkish army and affiliated factions on October 9, 2019, which resulted in the displacement of thousands of residents from the city and its countryside.
