Hezbollah describes Lebanese Government’s decision as a “Grave Sin”

Hezbollah accused the Lebanese government of committing a “grave sin” following its mandate for the army to develop an actionable plan to disarm militias by the end of the year.

In a statement issued today, the party declared it would treat any decision to strip it of arms “as if it does not exist,” while affirming its readiness “to discuss a national security strategy, but not under the shadow of aggression.”

Hezbollah stated: “The government of President Nawaf Salam has committed a grave sin by taking a decision that strips Lebanon of the weapon of resistance against the Israeli enemy,” adding that “the decision undermines Lebanon’s sovereignty, hands Israel a free hand to meddle in its security, geography, politics, and future existence; therefore, we will treat this decision as if it does not exist.”

The party continued: “We remain open to dialogue, ending Israeli aggression on Lebanon, liberating its lands, releasing prisoners, and working towards state-building.” It emphasized that “the ceasefire agreement must first be implemented by Israel.”

Hezbollah further noted that the decision “fully serves Israel’s interests and leaves Lebanon exposed to the Israeli enemy without any deterrence,” explaining that “the decision achieves for Israel what it failed to accomplish during its aggression against Lebanon.”

The party also accused the Lebanese government of “flagrantly disregarding the President’s commitment during his oath speech to discuss a national security strategy.”

It pointed out that the withdrawal of Hezbollah and Amal Movement ministers from the government session was a clear expression of rejection of this decision.

On Tuesday, the Lebanese government decided to postpone the final decision on the matter of consolidating arms solely under state control until next Thursday, tasking the army with preparing a paper on the mechanisms for this issue by the end of the year.
