Hewlêr summit stresses importance of dialogue, protecting Kurdish rights in Syria

On Tuesday, in the city of Hewlêr in Southern Kurdistan, a tripartite meeting took place between President of the Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani, Commander-in-Chief of the SDF Mazloum Abdi, and special presidential envoy Tom Barak of the USA. At the meeting, the latest trends in the political and military developments in the region, especially in Syria, were discussed.

The announcement made by the Kurdistan Region Presidency went on to state that the meeting had focused on current political and security conditions in the region, in addition to discussing cooperation between the Kurds and Damascus regarding Syria. In this respect, the US envoy confirmed his country's continuous support for all efforts dedicated to achieving security and stability along with finding viable solutions to Syria’s problems.

According to the announcement, the President of the Region reiterated that dialogue, mutual understanding, and respecting the rights of the Kurds and other peoples in Syria constitute the best path for settling any pending disputes, and that Kurdistan is prepared to offer any required help.

In this connection, the announcement further stated that the meeting had been concerned with the necessity of enhancing joint coordination when facing various security threats, particularly terrorism, in an effort to achieve greater stability in the region.
