HDP renews call for Turkish Parliament to hear Leader Abdullah Ocalan

HDP MP Ayşe Gül Doğan made a statement regarding the party's agenda at the party's headquarters.

Ayşe Gül Doğan pointed out that everyone is questioning the peace process and democratic society: "What stage has the process reached? Public opinion is not seeing positive developments, so it is raising negative questions. The people want concrete steps to eliminate the current distrust. Both the political and societal sides are waiting for concrete steps."

She stated that Leader Abdullah Ocalan's call was a historic and strategic call, adding, "The process entered a completely different phase with Mr. Ocalan's call on February 27. It is not a tactical call; it must be comprehensively evaluated. Many things have happened since the right to hope until his arrival in Parliament that have undermined existing knowledge. These things were extremely valuable."

Continuing her remarks, Ayşe Gül Doğan also noted Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş's statement today at the new Parliamentary Committee meeting, in which he said, "A report will be prepared, and the focus will be on legal amendments and reforms." She said, "This is a late statement, but it is important. He wants Parliament to work for peace. I hope it will work more quickly in the coming period, that the root causes of the Kurdish issue will be discussed, and that proposals will be made."

She emphasized, "The committee must listen to Mr. Ocalan's views and proposals. This is a duty. Mr. Ocalan is the primary actor, and he must certainly be listened to."

She emphasized that "easing the isolation regime imposed on Imrali does not mean its end. For the first time in years, lawyers have visited him. This is what must be done. We said that a delegation of general co-chairs and members of the Central Executive Committee would visit him. We want this to happen. Mr. Ocalan must be able to meet with all parties except the Peoples' Democratic Party."

Ayşe concluded her remarks by highlighting the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers' decision regarding the "right to hope" regarding the leader, saying, "This issue affects the lives of 4,350 detainees," adding, "The European Court of Human Rights' decision must be implemented immediately."
