Nurseries in the city of Qamishlo are seeing growing interest from residents and farmers, amid increasing attention to greening spaces and planting flowers, fruit trees and olive trees. Syrians are facing growing livelihood pressures due to rising prices, declining purchasing power and limited employment opportunities, as the gap between wages and the cost of basic necessities widens. Mursheedis in Syria are celebrating “Eid al-Farah bi-Allah” (Festival of Rejoicing in God), their only religious holiday, which lasts three days and commemorates the announcement by Mujib bin Salman al-Murshid on August 25, 1951, of the launch of the Mursheedi religious movement.
