Intellectuals in North and East Syria stated that the ideology of Leader Abdullah Ocalan focused on prioritizing the development of the individual—their character and thinking—based on genuine democracy, beginning with self-awareness and the cultivation of a free, educated person capable of building a society rooted in peace, dialogue, and acceptance of others. Displaced residents of Tal Abyad/Gire Spi, now living in camps across North and East Syria, called for concrete steps to guarantee their safe return to their occupied homes after years of displacement and suffering. Uncle Ibrahim Ahmad Faris from the countryside of Derik stands on the ruins of his old village, gazing sorrowfully at the land that once pulsed with life. He points to where the village’s springs once flowed—all of which have now dried up, leaving behind only names in memory. “I wished to gather some stones from Lake Van, sprinkle them with its water, and place them in a vial, then take the path that leads to the village of Khaja Khatun—to reach you, as my heart always longed to. I wanted to place those stones on your soil and water them with the lake’s water, to touch your hair, strand by strand, like one touches a rose."
