The mindset established by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), through the philosophy of Leader Abdullah Ocalan, has strengthened the self-confidence of the Kurdish people and Kurdish society, and enhanced their political standing. Pollution of the Sarout River in rural Hama, caused by sewage waste and wastewater from olive presses, is leading to an epidemic spread of leishmaniasis.
