Hasakah notables’ meeting affirms priority of stability, rejection of sedition

Under the slogan, “Together to protect our society, hand in hand toward unity and stability. Civil peace is everyone’s responsibility. Our word is one, and our security is one. No to sedition, no to incitement, no to hate speech,” the Council of Notables and the Hasakah Notables Council organized a meeting today at Shto Hall in the city of Hasakah. The event was attended by a large number of representatives of Arab and Kurdish tribes and other components, as well as cultural and social figures and representatives of political parties.

The meeting began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by an opening speech delivered by Sheikh Akram al-Mahshoush, advisor to the al-Jubour tribe, who said:
“We gather today to protect our society hand in hand and to guide our regions toward unity and stability. Throughout history, Hasakah province has remained a land of coexistence and fraternity, where Kurds, Arabs, Christians, and Yazidis have lived side by side under various circumstances.”

He affirmed that “Hasakah will remain a model of social unity that has withstood incitement and strife,” noting that those who bear the responsibility of social reform and safeguarding civil peace understand that the current stage requires the highest levels of awareness, wisdom, and solidarity among the region’s components and tribes.

Afterward, the Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi, delivered a speech in which he reaffirmed commitment to the January 29 agreement. He indicated that progress has been made in consolidating the ceasefire and taking practical steps toward integrating institutions and forces, while preserving the particularity of Kurdish areas. He stressed that the coming phase will witness accelerated integration measures in coordination with international parties. Warning against the rise of hate speech, he called for unity to ensure stability and prevent sedition, noting that the primary objective remains the successful implementation of the agreement and the establishment of lasting peace.

Several tribal sheikhs and local dignitaries also delivered speeches, expressing their support for the January 29 agreement and their complete rejection of hate speech and attempts to create division among components. They additionally called for clearing the prisons and improving conditions in the region.

In response to the dignitaries’ demands, Mazloum Abdi pledged to issue a general amnesty and clear the prisons in the coming days in coordination with the relevant authorities.

The meeting concluded with the reading of a public statement, which read:

“We affirm to the entire world that Hasakah will remain a land of coexistence and brotherhood and will never be an arena for sedition, incitement, or hate speech.

In recent times, a systematic escalation of incitement and the spreading of discord has been observed in Syria in general, and in al-Jazira canton in particular, as though there are those seeking to dismantle the strong Syrian social fabric. Therefore, we, the sons and components of the Syrian Jazira (Arabs, Kurds, Syriacs, Assyrians, Turkmen, and Armenians; Muslims, Christians, and Yazidis), declare that the people of Hasakah province historically a living example of fraternity among all components have shared bread, water, and destiny. They have protected one another in times of hardship before times of prosperity and have confronted and eliminated the largest terrorist organization.

As tribes from various components, we will always remain the safety valve and a school of wisdom, reason, and justice. Today, our region is passing through a delicate phase that requires all of us to rise to the level of historical responsibility.

Accordingly, we affirm the following:

Commitment to implementing agreements that achieve integration and spare Syrian blood.

Tribal responsibility: adherence to tribal values; we are not an army within an army nor an alternative to the army.

Our intellectuals: we affirm your role in spreading a culture of love.

Our youth: you are the pillar of the future and the first line of defense for the homeland.

Hate speech: we strongly condemn all forms of hate speech, incitement, and ethnic or sectarian discrimination.

Brotherhood and citizenship: we affirm that the Syrian Jazira is a model of diversity and that coexistence is the foundation of our strength.

Solidarity in hardship: we commit to providing mutual support to confront economic and social challenges.

Media responsibility: we call on activists and media institutions in Syria to adhere to professional codes of honor and avoid inflammatory terminology that tears apart the social fabric.

Language of dialogue: we believe that dialogue and mutual understanding are the only means to resolve differences.

The statement concluded by renewing the pledge to remain hand in hand toward unity and stability, to protect society through cooperation and understanding, and for Hasakah to always remain a model of coexistence and brotherhood among all its people.”
