Group of Afrin IDPs in Kobani arrive in their hometown

The convoy of displaced residents from Afrin, which departed this morning from the city of Kobani, has arrived in their hometown as part of organized return trips, after nine years of forced displacement endured by the people of the region.

The group that arrived included 600 families and marks the fifth convoy of returnees, following four previous convoys that departed from the Jazira region in recent months, as part of the ongoing return of displaced residents to their areas.

Before the convoy departed this morning, a statement was delivered by Kobani District Director Ibrahim Muslim and Co-Chair of the Autonomous Administration in Kobani, Mizghin Khalil, in the presence of a delegation from the Interim Government, alongside Siyamand Afrin, a commander in the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah province, Ilham Ahmad, Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration, and a delegation from the Kobani Administration.

The statement said: “Today is a day of love and peace, as Afrin families return from the city of Kobani to the city of Afrin, their original homeland, and their number is estimated at around 600 families,” noting that some families were unable to join the convoy due to their children continuing their studies during the current academic year.
