German FM calls for justice over atrocities in Syria’s coast and Sweida

Vadivol highlighted the importance of combating terrorism, drug smuggling, and limiting Iranian influence, describing these issues as priorities for achieving stability in Syria and the broader region.

He stated that Berlin had provided 13 million euros to support humanitarian efforts in Syria, confirming Germany’s intention to reopen its embassy in Damascus in the near future.

The minister also emphasized that the new Syria should belong to all its components without exception.

He noted that the recent parliamentary elections were a positive step but would have gained greater credibility if they had included the provinces of Hasakah, Raqqa, and Sweida.

Vadivol reaffirmed Germany’s support for Syria’s territorial unity and expressed his country’s hope that Syria would play a special role as a bridge between Europe and the Gulf states. He added that Berlin had never supported the former Assad regime, and believes that relations with the new Syria should be built on justice and regional cooperation.

The Syrian Transitional Government’s Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that Minister Vadivol was received by Ahmad al-Shar’a, and the two sides discussed several economic, political, and security files.
