From Kobani... Newroz 2026 will be for freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan and achievement of national unity

The Newroz celebrations continue at Mishtehnour Hill in Kobani, with tens of thousands of residents participating, many dressed in traditional Kurdish attire. This year's celebration is being held under the slogan "With the spirit of national unity, let us light the Newroz flame."

Participating in the celebration are a delegation from the Syrian Interim Government in Aleppo Governorate, members of the Autonomous Administration institutions in the Euphrates Canton, women's organizations, political parties, and families of martyrs.

After a minute of silence, the Newroz flame was lit by Aisha Afandi, a member of the Syrian Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan and wife of martyr Salih Muslim, a member of the Presidential Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), alongside fighters from the People's Protection Units (YPG), amidst chants honoring Nowruz and the martyrs, and ululations from the women.

Then, a message from Leader Abdullah Ocalan, written for Newroz in 2026, was read, stating: "With our own hands, we can transform this year into a true year of freedom for all the peoples of the Middle East."

The co-chair of the Executive Council of the Autonomous Administration in Kobani, Mazkin Khalil, delivered the opening speech, in which she congratulated all those present, the Kurdish people in general, and leader Abdullah Ocalan on the arrival of Newroz

She explained that they are celebrating Newroz this year during a sensitive period for the region, but everyone knows that Newroz is not just a holiday or celebration; it is an uprising against occupation and oppression. The Kurdish people have always resisted all forms of injustice throughout history and renew their struggle every year on this occasion.

Jahid Hassan, a member of the Democratic Society Movement's administration, also delivered a speech, offering his blessings to the martyrs of freedom, the families of the martyrs, and all the peoples of the Middle East on the occasion of this holiday.

Jahid Hassan stated that this year's Newroz should be an occasion to achieve national unity and secure the physical freedom of leader Abdullah Ocalan

He pointed out that Newroz has been, and remains, throughout the ages, a symbol of the struggle against injustice and tyranny, the pursuit of freedom, and the escalation of resistance against the enemies of the Kurdish people.

Jahid Hassan emphasized the necessity of holding a Kurdish national conference under whose auspices Kurdish unity can be achieved across the four parts of Kurdistan, given the importance and sensitivity of the current stage the region and Kurdistan are going through.

Khunav Khalil, a member of the Kongra Star Coordination Committee, also delivered a speech in which she congratulated the arrival of Newroz, and stressed that this occasion has always been a means by which the Kurds have demonstrated their free will to the whole world, and proven their identity and will to everyone.
