Five men found dead near Palmyra after going missing

The killing of the five young men, all members of the Alawite community from the Al-Muhajireen neighborhood in Homs, has drawn significant attention following the discovery of their bodies near Palmyra, while no official explanation has been provided.

ANHA correspondent, citing local sources, reported that the bodies were found several days after contact with the men had been lost. No official or security authority has yet issued a statement clarifying the circumstances of the incident or announcing the findings of any investigation.

The victims, whose funerals were held today after their bodies were released from Al-Waer Hospital in Homs, were identified as Hassan Bassam Al-Rashid, Firas Ali Al-Rashid, Jaafar Mohammed Al-Rayyani, Ghadeer Adnan Salama, and Mohammed Ali Salim.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, the five men worked as day laborers and had traveled several days earlier to the outskirts of Palmyra to collect and transport scrap metal. They were accompanied by a sixth person, whose whereabouts, according to circulating reports, remain unknown.

Local reports and accounts have circulated allegations accusing certain individuals and parties of luring, employing, or abandoning the victims, along with speculation that the killings may have been sectarianly motivated. However, these claims have not been confirmed by any independent judicial or security authority, and no official investigation results have been released.
