First International Women’s Day events kick off in Kobani tomorrow

Kongra Star in Kobani announced the program for International Women’s Day (March 8) during a statement delivered in the city’s Free Women’s Square, read by Kongra Star coordinator member Khonaf Khalil.

The statement extended congratulations to women around the world on March 8, emphasizing that this day represents an important milestone in confronting policies and practices targeting women’s will and existence. It highlighted that the occasion is an opportunity to renew the commitment to continue the struggle for freedom and equality, noting that women’s issues are not limited to a single day but constitute an ongoing process that requires constant effort.

The statement confirmed that women continue to strengthen their presence and societal role across political, military, and administrative fields, stressing that attempts to weaken them have only reinforced their determination to claim their rights and escalate their struggle. It also reaffirmed the adoption of the philosophy “Women, Life, Freedom” as an approach reflecting women’s aspirations for freedom and justice.

Announced program of events:

March 1: City decoration and a march in support of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ).

March 2–3: Holding seminars in communes and villages.

March 4: Organizing central seminars in Kobani city, the village of Bandar, and Shiran subdistrict.

March 5: Visiting Women’s Protection Units and internal security forces.

March 6: Organizing a running race and a cycling race for young women.

March 7: Tree planting activities.

March 8: A march starting from Free Women’s Square to Martyr Akid Square, followed by a public celebration.

The statement concluded by inviting all women to participate in the events and emphasized the continued effort to build a free, democratic, and equal Syria.
