Elham Ahmed: political progress in N. Kurdistan secures Kurdish future

The Newroz celebrations in Amed continue with strong public participation and notable political messages. Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration, Elham Ahmed, confirmed that this year’s Newroz carries significance beyond its festive character, representing a pivotal moment in the Kurdish cause toward unity and a democratic solution, stressing the importance of the current stage in strengthening Kurdish unity and consolidating the democratic path.

In a video message addressed to those celebrating Newroz, Elham Ahmed emphasized that Newroz has historically symbolized liberation and new beginnings for the Kurds, noting that Newroz 2026 could mark the start of a different political phase across all of Kurdistan.

Her message reads:

"Dear Kurdish people and esteemed residents of Amed,

From Qamishlo to Amed, and from Hewler (Erbil) to Mahabad, we congratulate all Kurds on Newroz. In Rojava Kurdistan, we have gone through difficult revolutionary years, yet many significant achievements have been realized thanks to the struggle of the Kurdish people across Kurdistan. We have succeeded in achieving important results in this regard. We had hoped to consolidate these gains at advanced levels through legal and constitutional recognition. Unfortunately, we faced more difficult circumstances. Amid these challenges, we realized once again that we are not alone; we found our people across all parts of Kurdistan supporting and standing with us, and we extend our greetings once again for this support.

In 2026, with a new beginning and a new Newroz, just as Newroz has historically symbolized liberation and redemption, it now represents a new day for all the peoples of Mesopotamia. We say that Newroz 2026 will be a Newroz for all Kurds.

We believe that the peace process and democratic political solution launched in Turkey are processes to address the political rights of the Kurdish people. In Eastern Kurdistan, a new phase is emerging. The era of a regime that oppressed Kurds for many years is coming to an end, and a new era has begun. This era is one of consensus and Kurdish unity.

In Southern Kurdistan, protecting achievements and safeguarding the revolution remains the responsibility of the Kurdish people as a whole. Northern Kurdistan is the largest part of Kurdistan, where the largest population and greatest potential are concentrated in Turkey and Kurdistan. In this context, as Kurds strengthen their mutual support and reinforce each other’s power, history will be rewritten, allowing them to stand strong and determined against all regimes that deprived them of their rights for years, stole their will, and excluded them from the system. Despite all pressures, difficulties, and challenges, Kurds continue to demonstrate awareness and determination. This is already evident practically on a daily basis, as Kurdish knowledge and ability to build their will and strengthen their power gradually unfold.

In Rojava Kurdistan, we are in a stage of building, and the same applies to Northern Kurdistan. Other parts of Kurdistan are experiencing both revolutionary and constructive phases. Women play an important and essential role in these stages of reconstruction. This role has been evident throughout history and is increasingly prominent today with the rising role of women and youth. Just as women and youth have been central to effort and sacrifice throughout the revolution’s history, they will once again play a role in rebuilding it. Based on this, we say that the more the political solution advances in Northern Kurdistan, the more secure and stable the future of Kurds in other parts of Kurdistan will be.

The strength of the Kurds in Northern Kurdistan is immense; when it moves, it flows like a mighty flood. Therefore, their full participation in the peace process and democratic society will lead to success. On this basis, we send our warmest greetings to Leader "APO" in appreciation of his sacrifices and efforts, which continue to this day. For this process to succeed everywhere, the political process must be transformed into a legal framework, and all resources mobilized in its service. On this basis, we greet you again and congratulate you on Newroz. We are confident that the coming years will consolidate the Kurdish people’s presence and guarantee their rights and sovereignty. In this context, the struggle continues at the highest level to achieve stability and prosperity and to secure the release of all political detainees. On this occasion, we also extend our greetings to all mothers, women, and youth.
