Electricity subscription prices rises in Raqqa, Tabqa, Deir ez-Zor

The city of Raqqa and its surrounding countryside, as well as Tabqa and Deir ez-Zor, have witnessed a sharp increase in the weekly subscription tariffs for private electricity generators (amperes) compared to the period under the Autonomous Administration.

According to field data, the price per ampere during the Autonomous Administration period was 10,000 Syrian pounds for eight hours of daily operation.

However, the price has jumped to 25,000 Syrian pounds for only four hours of operation in the past week, representing an increase of approximately 108% in the weekly subscription cost, with operating hours reduced by about 50%.

Unlike the period under the Autonomous Administration, which subsidized fuel for generators, the Interim Government provides no fuel subsidies. This has significantly increased the cost of operating generators and exacerbated the economic burden on residents who rely on private generators.

This price hike places an additional financial strain on residents, who are now forced to depend on private generators to secure even the minimum electricity needs of their homes.

Observers point out that this living crisis is not limited to Raqqa alone, but includes most of the Syrian regions under the control of the Interim Government, whereas the situation before government control was relatively more stable, as the people used to get longer operating hours at a lower cost.
