In a statement issued today, the Druze Spiritual Leadership declared Sweida a disaster-stricken region and called for the opening of routes with both the Kurds and Jordan, citing their vital humanitarian importance in these critical times.

The statement read: "To our people… to the free people of Sweida…

With broken hearts, tearful eyes, and emotions beyond words, we mourn to the free world and to all of humanity our sons, our brothers… our righteous martyrs, who fell victim to a bloody massacre committed by a criminal terrorist group devoid of any sense of humanity in a cowardly attack that targeted unarmed civilians of this sacred land, murdering innocent people with a brutality only possible from those who have stripped their hearts of mercy and their souls of all traces of humanity."

"This calamity struck us like lightning, carrying within it unspeakable pain, blood spilled on our blessed soil, and a wound in the heart of Sweida that will not easily heal. Yet, we know who we are. We know our worth. We believe that the pure blood that was shed will not be in vain, it will be a light guiding the path of dignity and resilience."

"In these trying moments, and after the cleansing of Sweida from the filth of terrorists, we declare that Sweida is a disaster-stricken area burdened with wounds, and we announce a period of public mourning in honor of our noble martyrs."

"We call upon members of our honorable community to stand united, to console the families of the martyrs with patience and solidarity, and to tend to our wounds with awareness, responsibility, and love."

"Brothers and sisters, we kindly ask that visits be limited during this period out of respect for the state of mourning and to allow families time to grieve and reorganize."

"We urge access for medical teams and teams documenting violations."

"We also call for the opening of roads toward our Kurdish brothers, and we appeal to His Majesty King Abdullah II of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to direct the opening of a border crossing between Sweida and Jordan, given the critical humanitarian importance of such routes at this time. We hope for swift measures that facilitate contact and ease the suffering of the people."

"We thank you for understanding the difficult days we are going through."

“May God have mercy on our martyrs and grant them paradise, bring comfort to the hearts of their mothers, fathers, siblings, spouses, and children, and grant us all patience and strength."

Sweida is bleeding… yes, but it will not be defeated. It will remain proud, steadfast, and dignified through the strength, faith, and unity of its people.”
