Drones target oil fields in S. Kurdistan; temporarily halting production

The Counter-Terrorism Directorate in the federal region of Southern Kurdistan announced this morning that three oil fields were targeted by explosive-laden drones in the Zakho and Duhok areas. Following the attacks, an oil company announced a temporary suspension of production at two of the targeted fields until damage assessments are completed.

In a statement reported by Roj News Agency, the Counter-Terrorism Directorate explained that two attacks occurred between 06:00 and 06:15 a.m., targeting DNO company’s oil fields in the Peshkhabour area of the Zakho Independent Administration, using two explosive drones.

The statement added that a third attack took place at exactly 07:00 a.m., targeting the "Tawke" field, also operated by DNO, with an explosive drone. A fourth attack followed at 07:14 a.m., hitting the American "Hand Oil" field in the Baadre area of Sheikhan district in Duhok province. No casualties or major material damages were reported.

Following the attacks, DNO announced a temporary suspension of operations at the Tawke and Peshkhabour fields as a precautionary measure until damage assessments are complete. One of the four drones used caused minor damage to a small storage facility at the Tawke field.

The company confirmed that the decision to suspend operations was directly linked to the attacks and that production will resume once technical assessments are finalized.

These developments come amid a series of recent airstrikes targeting oil sites in Southern Kurdistan, raising growing concerns about the potential security impact on the energy sector.
