As the return of displaced residents of Serêkaniyê draws near, preparations are underway to secure roads and villages by clearing landmines that pose a significant obstacle to their safe return. Authorities have announced the formation of a specialized committee to begin demining operations.

In an exclusive statement to ANHA agency, Presidential Team member Mustafa Abdi said that a specialized committee has been formed for this purpose. This committee includes the Internal Security Forces in Serêkaniyê and the 60th Division of the Syrian Army, and its objective is to carry out demining operations and secure the areas for the return of displaced residents.

He explained that all logistical preparations, including maps of mine locations, are complete, paving the way for specialized teams to begin clearing mines and other hazards from villages and roads, and reopening routes to the city and its surrounding countryside.

He noted that the roads connecting Tel Tamer and Serêkaniyê, as well as those between Darbasiyah and Serêkaniyê, were opened recently, but traffic has yet to resume due to the widespread presence of landmines in the area. He emphasized that the completion of the demining operations will facilitate their reopening to residents and displaced persons.

More than 80,000 displaced people from the city of Serêkaniyê, according to the Serêkaniyê Displaced Persons Committee, are waiting to return to their city, villages and homes safely, in accordance with the terms of the January 29 agreement.
