Demands to grant activist Narges Muhammadi health permit to receive treatment

A group calling for the release of activist Narges Muhammadi called on the Iranian authorities to issue a health permit for the detainee in Evin prison to receive treatment for the diseases she suffers from, after her health condition deteriorated after months of neglect and deprivation.

The (Narges Release Coalition), group that advocates for the release of activist and prisoner in Evin Narges Muhammadi prison, stated that "she must obtain a health permit to receive treatment for a range of diseases," in light of her deteriorating health due to detention conditions.

This comes after the Iranian authorities agreed to transfer the prisoner, winner of the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize, to hospital after nearly 9 weeks of suffering from the disease.

The group noted that simply being hospitalized would not solve the serious health problems resulting from months of neglect and deprivation.

Narges is being held in Iran's notorious Evin prison, which houses political prisoners. She had already served 30 months in prison, adding another 15 months in January.

On Saturday, Iranian authorities handed down an additional 6-month prison sentence against her after protesting the execution of another political prisoner in the women's wing of Evin prison on August 6.

Narges suffers from heart disease, according to a medical report released in September.

Narges, 52, is the nineteenth woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize, the second Iranian woman to win it after human rights activist Sheren Ubadi in 2003.
