Delegation of Women's Office for Serê Kaniyê IDPs discussed safe return with Ilham Ahmed

The Women's Office for Serê Kaniyê Displaced Persons held a meeting with Ilham Ahmed, the co-chair of the Relations Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, to discuss the political and humanitarian developments related to the displaced persons' file, in light of recent developments on the Syrian scene and the repeated meetings between the negotiating delegations and Damascus.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the difficult conditions endured by thousands of displaced persons for more than six years since the occupation of their city, as many of them still reside in camps and schools across North and East Syria. The meeting emphasized the need to intensify efforts to improve their living conditions and provide them with humanitarian support and basic services, considering this a national and humanitarian duty that cannot be postponed.

The meeting also addressed the March 10th Agreement, which stipulated the right of all displaced persons to return to their homes. This agreement is a fundamental pillar of any comprehensive and just political solution in Syria, especially in light of the anticipated political transformations that may pave the way for a new transitional phase.

During her remarks, Ilham Ahmed, the co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department, emphasized that "the right of return is a human and legal right that cannot be waived." She confirmed that the Autonomous Administration places the issue of displaced persons at the top of its priorities and is working to coordinate efforts with political and human rights organizations to ensure a safe and dignified return for all residents of Serê Kaniyê, Tel Abyad, and other occupied areas.

For their part, members of the Women's Office for Displaced Persons in Serê Kaniyê expressed their appreciation for the efforts made by the Relations Department in supporting the displaced persons' issue. They emphasized the importance of empowering displaced women and strengthening their role in defending the rights of their communities and demanding the return of all residents of their city, especially in light of the harsh conditions facing displaced persons in camps and host areas.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties affirmed their commitment to continuing coordination and joint action to defend the right of return and implement relevant provisions in any future political settlement. They noted that the return of displaced persons to Serê Kaniyê represents a pivotal step towards achieving justice and stability and building a pluralistic, democratic Syria that guarantees the rights of all its components.
