delegation from European Parliament; French human rights activists visits NE, Syria

A delegation from the European Parliament, human rights activists, and members of the French NGO "Lawyers Without Borders" visited the headquarters of the Department of Foreign Relations of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

The delegation was received by the Co-Chair of the Department of Foreign Relations, Ilham Ahmed, and a member of the Department's Administrative Board, Khaled Ibrahim.

The visiting delegation included:

Mr. Mounir Satori, Member of the French European Parliament and Chair of the Human Rights Committee (who previously visited North and East Syria in 2021); Émilie Moreno, lawyer at the Paris Bar Association and Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the French National Council of Lawyers, representing 164 bar associations in France;

Fabienne Sevran, President of the French General Fraternity (Fraternité Générale), which promotes fraternity through audiovisual, educational, cultural, sporting, and civic initiatives; Marie Daus, lawyer at the Paris Bar Association and member of Avocats sans Frontières; and Matthieu Yagard, lawyer at the Paris Bar Association and representative of Avocats sans Frontières.

Avocats sans Frontières is an international non-profit organization based in France. It is a solidarity association that contributes to supporting the rule of law, the judicial institution, and the right to a fair trial. It also strengthens the capacity of local actors in the field of justice and law by providing training tailored to meet specific needs and challenges. The two sides also discussed issues related to humanitarian and human rights issues, as well as the possibility of cooperation in these areas and capacity building in the areas of justice and human rights.
