Deir Hafer residents condemn transitional government’s massacres

On Saturday, September 20, militants of the Syrian transitional government carried out a horrific massacre in the village of Umm al-Tinah, near the city of Deir Hafer in Tabqa Canton. The attack, carried out with drones and artillery shells, left seven martyrs, including women and children, and wounded four others.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the people of Deir Hafer expressed strong condemnation of the massacre, describing it as a continuation of the bloodshed in Syria. They urged an end to the cycle of violence and a commitment to peace and dialogue.

Adnan al-Mohammad, a resident of Deir Hafer, said: “We strongly denounce the bombing that struck the village of Umm al-Tinah north of Deir Hafer. Years of war and killing have exhausted us, and now our only aspiration is to live a dignified life built on dialogue and understanding among all components of the Syrian people, far from destruction and death.”

For her part, Maha al-Khalaf expressed her deep sorrow, saying: “We are in great pain over what happened in Umm al-Tinah, where entire families were wiped out for no reason. It was a harsh night for the people of Deir Hafer, under a brutal bombardment that claimed innocent lives including seven members of a single family, the last of whom passed away this morning.”

She added: “We hope this war, which has torn our country apart, will finally end, and that we can live as Syrians without foreign interference, united against the crimes that target our people regardless of community or affiliation.”

Meanwhile, Haj Ahmad al-Mohammad, from the village of Rasm al-Khamis near Deir Hafer, said: “I strongly condemn the shelling that targeted innocents in Umm al-Tinah, and I extend my condolences to the families of the martyrs. We do not want to see this painful scene repeated. We are all losers in this war, and the death of a single innocent person is an irreparable loss for all Syrians.”

He concluded by calling for the supremacy of dialogue, stressing that whenever Syrians move closer to understanding, external powers intervene to disrupt it.
