Deir ez-Zor residents: Leader's call is step towards ending conflicts; building a shared future

Growing interest is being shown in the appeal for peace and democratic society made by leader Abdullah Ocalan on February 27, and calls for its immediate implementation are mounting under the strained condition of the Middle East and the world.

Here, the people of Deir ez-Zor canton affirmed that the call is a real opportunity to save peoples from war and establish stability. Linda al-Habo, co-chair of the town of Baghouz in al-Sousah city, emphasized that the call is a call for surpassing sectarian and ethnic conflict and uniting the various political forces with the view to achieving comprehensive peace.

Al-Habo also added that this appeal is a fundamental step along the path of renouncing violence and having recourse to dialogue and negotiation and that its implementation will provide a real opportunity to achieve an understanding between the various parties and proceed with the building of a state of justice and equality.

She also indicated that Leader Abdullah Ocalan's message to women on March 8 was received positively in Deir ez-Zor, as it is a genuine call for them to participate in building a democratic society that recognizes their rights and strengthens their role.

Dialogue is the way of salvation

For his part, Jaber al-Faisal, the city council co-chairman of the city of Hajin in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor canton, stated that the leader's call is a sincere call for the cessation of violence and a peaceful resolution.

He emphasized that dialogue must be the best method to end the conflict, away from war, which brings nothing but destruction. He believed that the leader's call is to build a state that maintains the dignity of all its components without exception.

The upcoming phase requires brave actions.

For her part, Nasra al-Askar, co-chair of the Abu al-Hassan Local Council in the city of Hajin, emphasized that the next step requires unprecedented political courage to break the cycle of violence. "There is no point in continuing the war, which has brought nothing but devastation," she stated. "It is time to turn words into actions."

She emphasized that there could be no peace without all elements being involved. She concluded by saying, "All sides must realize that illusory victories do not make nations, but ruin what remains of them."
