DAA urges transitional govt. to respect Syrians’ will, stresses importance of dialogue

The Democratic Autonomous Administration expressed today its deep concern over the rising wave of tensions in Syria, especially in the coastal region and in Sweida, warning that targeting civilians and peaceful protesters could push the country toward a new cycle of violence.

In its statement, the Administration said that the assaults targeting demonstrators demanding their legitimate rights, along with the deployment of armed groups under labels such as “Tribal Mobilization” and “Tribal Forces,” constitute “practices that threaten civil peace and stir discord among Syrians.”

It reaffirmed its support for the aspirations of Syrians and their right to peaceful protest for freedom, justice, and equality, stressing once again that political dialogue is the only way to move beyond the current situation and prevent chaos.

The Administration called on the transitional government in Syria to respect the will of the population and stop the violence against civilians, warning that escalation in Homs, the coast, and Sweida will have “serious consequences” for the country’s future and its path toward building a decentralized democratic state.

It also emphasized that repeated attacks on civilians constitute “a violation of humanitarian values,” urging an end to the rhetoric of incitement and hatred that contributes to tearing apart the social fabric.

The Administration concluded its statement by affirming that its choice will remain “peace, dialogue, the unity of Syrians, and the building of a decentralized democratic Syria.”
