DAA in Kobani condemns appointment of administrators from outside region to local institutions

The Democratic Autonomous Administration in Kobani issued a statement of condemnation today, read by Beyman Alloush, Coordinator of the Star Congress in Kobani.

The statement read: "According to the agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Interim Government on January 29th, the institutions in the region were supposed to be integrated, the local will of its people recognized, and the administrations of these institutions appointed from among the people of the region themselves."

The statement added: “Based on this, the governor of Hasakah and several other administrators from the province were appointed. However, this process was not implemented in the Kobani region, where administrators for local institutions are being appointed from outside the province. To date, a district director and several administrators have been appointed in the towns of Sarrin and Jalabiya without consulting the residents of Kobani.”

It noted that “these steps and procedures undertaken by the Aleppo Governorate administration do not conform to the provisions of the January 29 agreement, nor do they adhere to the terms of the integration agreement concluded between the Interim Government and the Syrian Democratic Forces. These actions are hindering the implementation of the integration agreement.”

The statement further explained, “After the Aleppo Governorate administration appointed administrators for institutions in the town of Jalabiya, residents of Kobani and Jalabiya gathered to issue a statement in the town, expressing their position on these steps. However, the Internal Security Forces and military forces affiliated with the Interim Government intervened, preventing the residents from issuing the statement, assaulting some of them, and attempting to detain several others.”

The statement called on the interim government to abide by the terms of the January 29 agreement and implement the integration process accordingly, and stressed: "We will not accept any other action outside this framework."
