DAA hands over woman, child from ISIS families to Spain

The official Spanish delegation, headed by Spain’s Ambassador to Damascus, Gonzalo de Salazar, and accompanied by his team, visited the region of North and East Syria. They were received by the Co-Vice President of the Foreign Relations Department, Galstan Ali, administrative board member Khalid Ibrahim, and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) representative Lana Hussein.

During the meeting, discussions covered the general situation in Syria, particularly in NE Syria, emphasizing the importance of implementing the March 10 agreement and continuing negotiations between the DAA and the Transitional Government in Syria.

The Foreign Relations Department highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination with Spain, expanding relations beyond humanitarian matters to cover all areas of mutual interest.

They also expressed gratitude to Spain for responding to the invitation from the DAA and the International Coalition to repatriate its citizens from camps in NE Syria, stressing continued cooperation with all countries that have nationals among ISIS-affiliated families to bring them home.

For his part, the Ambassador said: “We commend the Syrian Democratic Forces for their contribution to combating ISIS. We remain concerned about the security situation in the region, as the organization, despite its weakness, still poses a threat, and it is essential to prevent its resurgence.”

He added: “We all share the same goal of ending violence, defeating terrorism, and promoting stability in Syria and the region, and I would like to highlight the contribution of countries worldwide in this joint effort against terrorism, alongside the international community, police, and military institutions.”
