DAA calls for immediate release of journalist Suleiman Ahmed

 Today, the Media Department of DAA issued a statement regarding journalist Suleiman Ahmed, who was kidnapped by the Kurdistan Democratic Party authorities in southern Kurdistan 97 days ago.

Journalist Suleiman Ahmed was kidnapped while returning from visiting his family in Syria at KDP-held Faysh Khabur crossing.

Media Department explained: “About 100 days ago, in an unjustified incident not based on any laws, journalist Suleiman Ahmed was arrested while crossing into Başûr Kurdistan on the border by KDP authorities, since the date his fate remains unknown and no one from his family has been informed about his place, knowing that the journalist  is a resident of the city of Afrin and was forcibly displaced from Afrin with his family following its occupation by Turkey and its mercenaries.”

The Media Department confirmed: “While we in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria condemn this arrest incident as it comes against one of our citizens without any reasons, we affirm that these behaviors are absolutely not consistent with all moral and legal values.”

The Media Department said: “We urgently call on the authorities of the Democratic Party to inform the family of journalist Suleiman Ahmed about his whereabouts and the need to release him. At the same time, we call on all journalistic and human rights institutions to work according to their assigned role in the context of pressure to reveal the fate of the journalist who was arrested without any reasons.”

The Media Department stated that the practices of the Kurdistan Democratic Party complicate matters and show negative image of KDP to the people of NE Syria.
