"Convoy of Hope" returns 55 people from al-Hol camp to Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Idlib

On January 23, 2025, the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a decision stating that "the time has come for the displaced to return to their homes, and affirmed its readiness to assist those in humanitarian need in the camps located in North and East Syria to voluntarily return to their cities.

In this context, the administration of al-Hol camp in Jazira canton, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), organized a voluntary return journey on Sunday, dubbed the "Convoy of Hope," which included 12 families comprising approximately 55 people, mostly women and children, from Homs, Hama, Idlib, and Aleppo.

This step comes within the framework of a comprehensive plan through which the Autonomous Administration seeks to return the camp residents to their areas of origin, at a time when the Damascus Interim Government continues to shirk its responsibilities towards the displaced within Syrian territory, thus increasing the burden on the Autonomous Administration.

This group is one of a series of practical steps taken by the Autonomous Administration to close the displacement file, which has burdened the regions of North and East Syria for years, amidst increasing calls from local and international parties to ensure a safe and dignified return for all Syrian displaced persons and refugees to their homes, foremost among them the displaced people of Afrin, Serê Kaniyê/Ras al-Ain, and Girê Spî/Tel Abyad.
