The statement was issued by DEM Party members Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, Meral Danış Beştaş, Hakkı Saruhan Oluç, Celal Fırat, and Cengiz Çiçek, following the two meetings held on August 19 and 20.

The statement highlighted the significance of the voices and testimonies presented during the sessions, given their political, social, and humanitarian implications tied to the memory of war and its ongoing repercussions.

It explained that the individuals and institutions who participated in the meetings had been selected through consensus among the political parties represented in the committee.

The statement extended “thanks to the participants for the living testimonies they shared about the pain and losses they endured, as well as the criticisms, opinions, and proposals they put forward, noting that these contributions painted a clear picture of the economic, political, and social consequences left by the war, and that every story or incident recounted formed a part of this broader picture.”

The statement added that “the diversity of opinions and proposals reflects the weight of responsibility placed upon the political institution, which now faces a ‘historic mission’ to make use of these experiences and observations.”

It further noted that “what was raised during the meetings serves as a reminder of the burden of the past, and of the committee’s commitment to work toward preventing this burden from being transferred to future generations, a commitment that must be demonstrated through its forthcoming practical steps.”

In conclusion, the statement stressed “the necessity of adopting a firm stance against any attempts at provocation that the committee may encounter while carrying out its duties.”
