A spokesperson for the administrative court in Düsseldorf announced that the expulsion order against the Iraqi mercenary “Abu Walaa,” the former ISIS leader in Germany, has become final after the deadline for appeal expired.

The spokesperson explained in statements to the German Press Agency that the convict did not file for permission to appeal the ruling, which rendered it legally binding.

The mercenary “Abu Walaa,” who was sentenced to ten and a half years in prison, had previously lost a lawsuit against the expulsion decision last June, justifying his objection by the fact that his seven children live in Germany.

However, the court emphasized that considerations of national security outweigh family-related justifications, stressing that the convict has not shown any genuine shift from his extremist positions or renounced ISIS ideology.

The written ruling stated that “there remains a danger of repeating the same crimes if the convict is released,” which reinforces the grounds for expulsion.

The court clarified that the expulsion order is an administrative measure obligating the mercenary to leave the country, while actual deportation requires further legal procedures.

The court spokesperson added that carrying out the deportation depends on the outcome of asylum proceedings, particularly given concerns that the mercenary “Abu Walaa” may face the death penalty if returned to Iraq.

The case is considered one of the most prominent terrorism-related files in Germany, with the mercenary “Abu Walaa” seen as one of the key figures who led ISIS recruitment networks inside the country.
