The university dormitories in Homs witnessed confrontations overnight between a number of students and Interim Government security members after an incident that began with verbal abuse directed at a student originating from the city of Daraa, which later developed into a physical assault, according to our correspondent.

According to the information obtained, the security officer called for reinforcements from the security detachment, while the student sought support from his fellow students, leading to rising tensions and the outbreak of clashes between a number of students and security personnel. The confrontations reportedly included “chants and takbirs” by the students.

The incident comes at a time when the city of Homs has been witnessing a deterioration in the security situation, amid calls to contain tensions inside the university campus.
