The Afrin Human Rights Organization reported today the death of Kurdish citizen Zaki Manan Faeq (39 years old), from the village of Miska Foqani in Jindires, the countryside of occupied Afrin. He died yesterday after a long struggle with illness in one of Damascus’s hospitals, due to severe deterioration of his health following kidney failure and liver damage.

According to the organization, Faeq was subjected to severe beating and torture during the occupation of the Afrin region in March 2018 by mercenary groups that were controlling the village at the time, led by the mercenary known as “Abu Fawaz al-Deiri,” originally from the Deir ez-Zor countryside.

The organization added that the assault came after Zaki refused to hand over the property of his relatives who had been forcibly displaced from the area to the mercenaries.

It noted that the effects of the torture Zaki endured caused a steady decline in his health over the past years, ultimately leading to his death after a long period of suffering from illness.
