Çilaxa residents demand meeting with Leader Abdullah Ocalan

The European Platform for Freedom and Peace launched a campaign on June 5 under the slogan “I Want to Meet Abdullah Ocalan”, aimed at organizing a meeting with him in Imrali prison. 

The initiative has gained wide support from national and political figures, journalists, as well as broad popular backing from communities following leader Ocalan’s philosophy.

In this context, Çilaxa residents announced their wish to see leader Abdullah Ocalan free.

Citizen Saleh al-Yasari said: “We demand the release of the leader because he represents the voice of peace and freedom in the Middle East. True peace cannot be achieved in the region while the messenger of peace remains behind bars. His philosophy has become the guiding path for peoples striving for freedom and democracy. Turkey’s peace process will not succeed without his physical freedom.”

He called for concrete steps to advance the peace process, emphasizing that Öcalan’s freedom is a core demand of the peoples who struggle and that they will not retreat from it.

Displaced Afrin resident Madina Mohammed Ranken stated: “We were displaced many times from our homes, but we never abandoned leader Ocalan’s path. We want to see him free among us, because peace and freedom have no meaning without his freedom. Our liberation is tied to his, and our stability depends on his presence. Without his ideas and guidance, women would not have achieved what they have today. We support every effort to meet him and will not give up until he is free.”

Another resident, Sherwan Safo, said:“ Peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved unless the leader is free. His call for peace goes beyond the Kurdish question in Turkey, it extends to democracy and peace for the entire region. The Turkish state must take this call seriously, as his freedom is key to peace and stability in the Middle East and the world.”

On August 20, the Popular Initiative in North and East Syria officially joined the “I Want to Meet Leader Abdullah Ocalan” campaign through a public statement.
