Calls in Swedia for Govt. Forces to withdraw from Druze villages

A demonstration took place in al-Karama Square in central Swedia on Saturday, where participants raised demands related to the right to self-determination, the release of abductees, and the withdrawal of interim government forces from villages they have taken control of in the countryside.

On the sidelines of the protest, one participant stated: “We will not deviate from our demands, and we will not compromise on our rights, our martyrs, our detainees, or our children’s right to a dignified life. Today, we stand with dignity, and the voice of the people and the free speaks the truth and expresses the stance of the people of the mountain.”

For his part, Zain Abu Sarhan from the village of Labin appealed to the United Nations and guarantor states to intervene and enable residents to return to their villages, saying: “We will not abandon our land or our villages. We demand the withdrawal of what is called public security and tribal forces from the villages of western and northern al-Maqran, after nine months of displacement and the destruction of homes, along with the need for a swift return and the implementation of the right to self-determination.”

These developments come amid ongoing tensions in Suwayda and increasing local calls for political and security solutions that would allow residents to return to their areas and restore stability.
