Calls emphasize importance of participating in Newroz events

With the approach of Newroz, which holds a special place for the Kurdish people as a national holiday symbolizing the end of oppression, the renewal of life, and the dawn of spring, Islamic religious leaders and scholars in al-Hasakah have called for vigorous participation in this year's Newroz celebrations, as it embodies human values that align with the essence of religions.

In this context, Mazen Harouni, the co-chair of the Democratic Islam Conference, explained that the essence of Islam and all heavenly religions revolves around building and protecting society. He pointed out that the diversity among peoples and nations is one of the natural laws of creation confirmed by the Quranic verses, where God created people into nations and tribes to know one another, and made the criterion for superiority among them righteous deeds and good actions.

He added that every people has its symbols and sacred traditions that express their culture, customs, and traditions, including the Kurdish people who live in this geography and carry their uniqueness thru their language, culture, heritage, and festivals passed down thru generations. He pointed out that any holiday or tradition that promotes love, respect, and peace among communities is considered virtuous in Islamic tradition.

He emphasized that participating in this year's Newroz celebrations with such enthusiasm is a testament to the determination to endure and resist any tyranny. He explained that Newroz is considered one of the sacred traditions of the Kurdish people, celebrated by other nations as well, symbolizing the triumph of the oppressed over the oppressor.

He affirmed that these values align with the teachings of religions that advocate for supporting the oppressed and rejecting injustice. Therefore, Newroz represents a day of peace and human revival and does not oppose any religion or sect.

For his part, the co-chair of the Ahl al-Bayt Association, Sheik Sinan Ahmed Sidoush, said that the Kurds celebrate their holidays and occasions while remembering the sacrifices and struggles their people have made for their language, identity, and rights.

He added, "We are approaching the Newroz holiday, which is considered sacred to us as Kurds, and it is a right given by God to every human being to preserve their identity and rights."

Sidoosh pointed out that the celebration of Newroz 2026 comes after the sacrifices made by the people of Rojava and Kurdistan in general, expressing his hope that this year's holiday will bring goodness and peace and that Kurdistan, in all its parts, will achieve its goals. He called on all the peoples of the region to participate in this year's Newroz celebrations to affirm their commitment to the cause and to support the oppressed.
