Bouthaina Shaaban: Turkey commits malicious Turkification process in Syria

Bouthaina Shaaban, the special advisor to Bashar al-Assad, mentioned during a lecture in Oman that the Turks have used the issue of rapprochement with Syria for their own benefit in the media. She stated that everyone is asking why Syria is not responding to Turkish demands, adding: "Turkey today occupies parts of our land, which is a dear, precious, and rich part of northwestern Syria, and they are carrying out a dangerous and malicious Turkification process." 

 She continued: "When Erdogan made statements about his desire to get closer to Syria ahead of the Turkish presidential elections, it was for electoral purposes. However, there is nothing they want to offer; they want to maintain what they are doing on the ground, occupy our land, wreak havoc, strike the Kurds, and expect us to be friends with them, and that just doesn't add up."

 She added: "Syria, through President Bashar al-Assad, stated that the Turkish side must acknowledge the principle of withdrawal. We did not say that they must withdraw immediately, and when they do not want to acknowledge the principle of withdrawal, we will not sit at the table. This is our right, and what is being presented by the Turks in the media is a form of misinformation used by Erdogan to achieve internal gains, regional advantages, or benefits with NATO."
