Barrack: transitional govt. pledges to fight Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran

The American envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, wrote about the meeting between the US President Donald Trump and Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House, describing it as a "decisive turning point" and "the beginning of a new phase of partnership after years of isolation."

In a post on his platform (X) yesterday, Barrack also stated that "the two presidents agreed to transform Syria from a pariah state into an active partner in combating terrorism by formally joining the international coalition against ISIS."

He added: "Damascus will now actively assist us in confronting and dismantling the remnants of ISIS, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist networks, and will stand as a committed partner in global efforts to secure peace."

He noted that Trump's declaration lifting all US sanctions on Syria gives it a "real opportunity for renewal," emphasizing that the meeting "demonstrated a mutual commitment to reconstruction and regional stability."

The American envoy concluded his statement by saying that "the next step is to repeal the Caesar Act," calling on Congress to adopt this decision to enable Damascus to "restart its economy and turn a new page.”
