PUK President Bafil Talabani's remarks came during a press conference carried by Roj News regarding the election file and the formation of the new government in S. Kurdistan.

"Masrour Barzani, the prime minister of the Kurdistan Region, will not assume the position of head of the general government, not even the prime minister, without obtaining the approval of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, stressing the need to respect the balance of political powers in the region," Talabani said.

He stressed that the PUK is ready to participate in the upcoming elections, while the rest of the parties have not taken any serious steps so far.

Talabani stressed that the PUK has completed all the necessary preparations for the elections and seeks to ensure that they are held on time.

Talabani responded to the KDP's statement in which he noted that "Masrour Barzani will remain prime minister for a new term," adding, "We must ask how this can happen? Things don't count 11 to zero, 50 to 1, we have to know how he can take this position again without consensus."

"Masrour Barzani's stay as prime minister or his assumption of the position of head of the general government must be based on a national political consensus," he said, rejecting any step that might be taken without the PUK's approval.
